The New York Traumatic Brain Injury Model System is led by the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City. The NY-TBI-MS is directed by Kristen Dams-O'Connor.
The comprehensive system of care includes emergency medical services provided by the New York City EMS. Acute care is provided in 8 Level I Trauma Centers in New York City. Rehabilitation services and long-term outpatient care is provided by the Rehabilitation Medicine Center of Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York City.
The research program of the NY TBI Model System currently includes two local research projects, one focusing on alleviation of post-TBI depression and the second on fatigue after traumatic brain injury. The NY-TBI-MS also leads a collaborative research project on fatigue.
The NY TBI Model System is also engaging in a major program aimed at dissemination of information about TBI to individuals with TBI, their family members and health care professionals. This includes resources freely downloadable from our website (www.TBICentral.org) as well as TBI Research Reports, which focus on the policy implications of research (topics: post-TBI depression, post-TBI vocational functioning and unidentified TBI).
