Abstract:
This project will survey TBI participants to determine when there is a return to driving, the reasons for driving, the extent of driving, and under what circumstances the person drives. The survey will also address what evaluations took place prior to resumption of driving and if there have been negative events (such as crashes or tickets). For those not driving, the reasons for this situation will be surveyed. The goal is to obtain information about driving after TBI, which represents a major step in recovery and independence for most people. New enrollees (N = 300) in the TBI MS will be followed for two years to provide a longitudinal sample. At the same time, participating centers will complete the driving survey during Form II follow-up calls (N = 300), generating a cross-sectional sample with regard to time since injury.
