Fun Facts

Angie’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Journey

Angie has lived with a TBI since June 7th, 2014. One major challenge she has faced is not feeling like there’s support or enough information out there on managing TBI. That was until she found out about MSKTC! The greatest lesson she’s learned while living with a TBI is that she must learn her own strategies for navigating her “new life” which is uniquely her own. Her contribution to the TBI community is simply being there for others—offering support, sharing what she’s learned, and helping however she can. She remembers how overwhelming the TBI world felt when she first entered it, and she wants to make that path easier for others.

What does Angie think of the quality, usefulness, and user-friendliness of the MSKTC resources so that others should use them?

Angie thinks that MSKTC has so many great resources for individuals with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and burn survivors. It’s amazing! It has helped her understand crucial information about concussions, which she sustained after her first TBI. She loves being able to watch videos and even read comics! It helps her brain learn by making the information engaging for different parts of her brain. She has also checked on “relationships after a TBI” section because she’s had a few questions.

Why does Angie want to be a MSKTC ambassador?

Angie loves to share this amazing website with her fellow TBI community members because she knows all about the wonderful information to be found there. She wishes more people knew about it, all the people that she’s shared the website with so far have had no idea!

What has Angie done as a MSKTC ambassador?

Angie has shared the website and its resources with 3 groups. Multiple people from these groups have told her how much help these resources have been, which she felt was heartwarming and made her day. She enjoys helping people out because she knows what it was like not have high quality TBI resources. Having a TBI is a new adventure and MSKTC has helped her navigate this adventure!
