Abstract:
Study evaluated the reliability and validity of the StepWatch Activity Monitor (SAM) as a tool for assessing ambulatory activity in children. The SAM counts the number of steps taken by its user at 1-minute intervals for as long as 1 month at a time. Analyses showed that the SAM had an accuracy of 99.87 percent compared with the observer counted steps and was shown to be valid and reliable when compared with heart rate monitoring.
