Abstract:

Study examining whether early neuropsychological testing is useful in predicting long-term productivity outcome (competitive employment or engagement in full-time education) after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Fifteen neuropsychologic tests were administered before rehabilitation discharge to individuals with TBI who emerged from posttraumatic amnesia. Test scores were classified in the normal range or the impaired range. It was found that productivity at 1-4 year follow-up was predicted by completion of at least neuropsychologic test before discharge, by an injury-test interval of less than 2 months, and by normal range scores on 10 of the 15 neuropsychologic tests. Normal range scores on these test increased the probability of a productive outcome by 40%-130%.
