Abstract:

Study discusses the Supervision Rating Scale (SRS), a brain injury outcome measure. The SRS measures a patient's required level of needed assistance. The study assessed the SRS's ability to identify functional outcome by rating 114 traumatically brain injured patients who had been referred for neuropsychological evaluation with the SRS, the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS), and the Disability Rating Scale (DRS). The SRS is discussed as a reliable and valid measure of functional outcome. Disadvantages of the SRS are noted to be insensitivity to mild disabilities, non-identification of why a patient is supervised, over and under estimation of potential outcomes of patients who are receiving a level of supervision inappropriate to their needs, and insensitivity to a person's ability to provide self care. Appendix provides a copy of the SRS.
