Abstract:

Study was conducted to identify factors influencing successful return to productive activity and to understand how return to productive activity 1 year after traumatic brain injury (TBI) relates to measures of impairment, disability, handicap, and community integration. During telephone interviews with 105 participants, data for the Disability Rating Scale (DRS) and the Community Integration Questionnaire (CIQ), and premorbid and current employment status were obtained. Of the 105 particpants, 72 percent achieved RTPA, associated with the following factors: premorbid educational level, premorbid psychiatric history, violent mechanism of injury, discharge status after acute hospitalization, prior alcohol and drug use, and injury severity.
