Abstract:

Study examined the relationship between the intensity of therapy services and functional outcome in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Patients from 3 medical centers participating in the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems program received comprehensive medical care including speech, occupational, and physical therapies, and psychological services. Outcome measures include therapy intensity, functional outcome, length of stay (LOS), and hospital charges. Analysis revealed that age predicted the intensity of both psychological and total therapy services. Acute care LOS was also a significant predictor of psychological services. Therapy intensity was predictive of motor functioning at discharge.
