Abstract:

Two exploratory factor analyses were conducted to determine whether there is a latent structure among measures currently used to assess community integration, health status, and quality of life outcomes for rehabilitation patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The instruments examined were the Community Integration Questionnaire (CIQ), the Craig Handicap Assessment and Reporting Technique (CHART), the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), and the Satisfaction With Life Scale. Both factor analyses suggested 3 latent factors among these measures: activities, participation, and subjective well-being. Low to moderate correlations were found between factors. The SF-36, CIQ, and CHART can, in combination, evaluate all 3 domains, but not alone.
