Abstract:

Article serves as an introduction to a series of articles that describe the underlying principles and the research initiatives of the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems of Care (TBIMS) program. TBIMS, a program funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), is a collaborative effort of rehabilitation centers across the United States to provide services for, increase knowledge of, and encourage research about traumatic brain injury. The series highlights the research efforts of the TBIMS in responding to the priorities set by NIDRR in the 1997/1998 to 2002 funding cycle.
