Abstract:
Presents an overview of diffuse axonal injury (DAI), the predominant mechanism in most cases of traumatic brain injury (TBI), through a review of textbooks, scientific presentations, and current ongoing research. Concepts discussed by the authors were developed from a combination of basic science concepts of cellular injury to the central nervous system, expertise in physical science, neuropsychologic and acute medical indicators of DAI, and rehabilitation outcomes from TBI.
