Abstract:

Compares statistical and clinical characteristics of selected measurement tools, especially the sensitivity of each to traumatic brain injury (TBI) functional outcome issues. Prior studies in the United states reported activity measures showed greatest ceiling effect and participation measures the least. The outcome measures studies were: The Community Integration Questionnaire (CIQ), Neurobehavioral Functioning Inventory (NFI), Patient Competency Rating Scale (PCRS), Level of Cognitive Functioning Scale (LCFS), Functional Independence Measure (FIM), Functional Assessment Measure (FIM + FAM), Supervision Rating Scale (SRS), Disability Rating Scale (DRS), Revised Craig Handicap Assessment and Reporting Technique (R-CHART) and Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). Study tested 40 Italian adults with prior moderate to severe TBI who had received inpatient rehabilitation 2 to 9 years previously. Results and implications for further research are discussed.
