Clinician influences on use of portable electronic memory devices in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation

Abstract:

Study examined the relationship between clinicians' experience, training, and confidence with portable electronic memory devices and their use of those devices in traumatic brain injury (TBI) rehabilitation. Eighty-one TBI clinicians completed the survey distributed in person or by mail. Twenty-nine respondents (36 percent) reported using portable electronic memory devices with their patients with TBI to maximize memory function. Eighteen of the respondents (22 percent) reported using the devices to maximize their own memory function in personal and professional situations. Analysis revealed that respondents' use of portable memory devices, the training they received on the device, and their confidence in teaching patients how to use the device were significantly associated with their use of the device in TBI rehabilitation.
