Abstract:

Study compared the effectiveness of 2 different volume preparations of the same dose of botulinum toxin-A in relieving spasticity secondary to acquired brain injury. Patients were randomly assiged to either the high-volume group and received a solution containing 50 units of BTX-A per ml of saline or the low-volume group who received 100 units per ml of saline. The solution was injected into the wrist and finger flexors. Results showed that the wrist and finger spasticity decreased significantly in both groups however, no significant difference was found between the high-volume and low-volume doses for spasticity reduction.
