Behavioral treatment of depression in predominantly African-American medical patients

Abstract:

Reports the results of a study of the efficacy of behavioral treatment for depression in older adult medical rehabilitation inpatients. In one group an experienced geropsychologist provided behavioral treatment and in another group occupational therapists provided the behavioral treatment. Depression was significantly reduced in both groups relative to the no-treatment group. Furthermore, Functional Independence Measure (FIM) scores of activities of daily living (ADL) showed significant improvement in the occupational therapist led group compared to the control group.
