Abstract:

Study examines the relationship between emotional distress and perception of deficits in 50 people with brain injury and their significant others. Forty percent of the brain injury patients and 24 percent of their significant others reported symptoms of depression, while 54 percent of TBI group and 39 percent of significant others reported symptoms of anxiety. Findings suggest that as time passes, individuals with TBI perceive themselves as more competent but significant others do not necessarily experience the same change in perceptions.
