So, more research is needed to really understand the optimal way of approaching depression after a brain injury, but we do know that there are a number of treatments that are available that can be very helpful for people with traumatic brain injury. The two most common ones and what appear to be the most effective from the evidence that we do have are counseling or psychotherapy and medications, specifically antidepressant medications.
