This is a part of the Hot Topic podcast series from the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center on TBI and Depression. Dr. Peter C. Esselman discusses Team Approach to Treating TBI and Depression.

Treatment of traumatic brain injury is a team approach that takes a number of health professionals, from a physiatrist like myself to a psychologist, neuropsychologist, to physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, vocational counselor and the like. So it’s really not in isolation at all, you really need a well-coordinated, functioning team to take care of these individuals.

The reason for that is that traumatic brain injury is complex, it really affects a lot of things and crosses all those disciplines with that. So to get the best outcome, you really need to focus on each individual problem that the person might be having, but you need to coordinate that as a team. You can’t be working in silos or in isolation and get the best outcomes.
