This is a part of the podcast series from the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center on Irritability, Anger, and Aggression after TBI. Dr. Flora Hammond discusses being aware of irritability after TBI.
One of the biggest difficulties in treating irritability is awareness of the irritability. So you need to know that it's happening in order to be able to try to control it and work on treatments. Another difficulty is realizing that you have some control to it, so the person with brain injury is part of the issue, but then the people around them may be part of the issue. And so a lot of times people think it's just the person with the injury that has the issue, but really loved ones can play a part in causing irritability, but they can also play a part in the solution because they can learn what some of the triggers are and how to avoid those triggers or identify treatments.
