Abstract:
Article describes the development of a taxonomy of rehabilitation interventions based on an inductive approach. Authors: (1) outline experiences in developing taxonomies in other health care fields, (2) describe the deductive and inductive approaches to developing a rehabilitation intervention taxonomy, (3) discuss the larger study on stroke rehabilitation outcomes that led to the proposed approach, (4) present an example of the classification system used in that study, (5) introduce proposed criteria for an intervention classification system and discuss the limitations of the current study to these criteria, (6) discuss the implications for the development of clinical practice guidelines and electronic medical records, and (7) identify some of the implications for rehabilitation research.
