Abstract:
Interviews were conducted with 24 women with spinal cord injury to investigate how women with SCI experience their sexuality. A conceptual model of sexual domains was proposed based on content analysis of the narratives. The proposed domains are: (1) self- versus other focus, (2) genital versus whole-body focus, (3) physical sex versus holistic intimacy, (4) sexuality as a bodily versus mental phenomenon, (5) exuberance versus negativity, and (6) past versus present focus. The domains are defined and illustrated with excerpts from the narratives.
