Abstract:

Article presents a brief history of the Model Spinal Cord Injury Systems (MSCIS) program and highlights findings from the research articles included in this journal issue. In the current 5-year grant cycle, 2000 to 2005, there are 16 regional MSCIS centers. In addition to establishing a comprehensive system of care, grantees contribute patient data to the National Spinal Cord Injury Database, which is recognized internationally as the authoritative source of information about epidemiology and outcomes in SCI.
