Abstract:

Study evaluated the perceived importance of family members' needs and the extent to which they were met during patients' acute rehabilitation following spinal cord injury (SCI). Family members of 17 inpatients completed the Family Needs Questionnaire (FNQ). Results showed that 18 of the 40 FNQ items were rated as most important or very important by all of the respondents. "Health information needs" were rated as most important and "instrumental support needs" were rated as the least important. "Involvement with care needs" were most often met, whereas "emotional support needs" were most often unmet.
