Abstract:

Introductory article provides an overview of a special series on the Model Spinal Cord Injury System (MSCIS) and presents a brief history of the program. The MSCIS maintains a national database, participates in independent and collaborative research, and provides continuing education relating to SCI. MSCIS is funded by grants awarded in 5-year cycles by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. In the 2000 to 2005 cycle, 16 programs received funding as model system.
