Presents commentary on the evolving ethics of rehabilitation care, moving toward a philosophy that sees its goals as removing barriers to independent living and facilitating community integration. Article discusses methods to promote client autonomy and states that more research is needed to determine the best time to present information to the client, the best manner in which to present it, and the best person to present it.
