Abstract:
Article discusses the benefits and limitations of colostomies. A colostomy involves surgically redirecting the colon (large intestine) to a stoma (surgically created hole) in the abdominal region to allow fecal matter to exit the body into a bag that the user wears for that purpose. The author explains how a colostomy works and people with spinal cord injuries share their personal experiences with colostomies.
