Abstract:

National survey examined the patterns and predictors of access to a variety of specific health care services among adults with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, or arthritis. Participants in managed care and traditional fee-for-service health plans answered questions concerning their need for and access to services from primary care doctors and specialists, rehabilitative services, assistive equipment, and prescription medication. Results showed that respondents covered by fee-for-service health plans were more likely than those covered by managed care organizations to receive needed services form specialists. Only half of the respondents received rehabilitative services as needed. Respondents with the poorest health and the lowest incomes were the least likely to receive all health services examined.
