J. Scott Richards, Ph.D., ABPP
Dr Richards has been on faculty of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 1977 following his graduation from Kent State University. He provides clinical services to persons with acute and chronic SCI as well as those with chronic pain of various etiologies. With UAB colleagues, he has been working to improve the classification of pain following SCI, and has been involved in a number of intervention trials including those involving gabapentin, and pregabalin for SCI neuropathic pain. He and colleagues are currently exploring the relationship between nicotine use and SCI pain, and are gathering pilot data on the feasibility of using fMRI to image the spinal cord secondary to pain.
