Mary Schmidt Read, serves the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley as the Spinal Cord Injury Program Director and Research Coordinator at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. Mary has been part of the SCI Center for over 30 years and served as a physical therapist, administrator and a researcher. She is responsible for the daily operations of the rehabilitation continuum of the RSCICDV at Magee and the coordination between TJU Hospital and Magee for clinical services and research. Mary also supports research projects spanning the Center, either administratively or clinically. She was instrumental in the design and development of the Clinical Trials Intervention Laboratory at Magee in which the BWS equipment is housed.

Mary’s background includes extensive academic teaching with a focus on care of persons with SCI. She is highly sought to train examiners involved in clinical trials on standard techniques to conduct neurological and functional outcome assessments. Ms. Schmidt has conducted training workshops nationally and internationally for Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Novartis and Geron. She serves as the Director of the NeuroRecovery Network at Magee and has organized training workshops for this group as well. Ms. Schmidt will oversee education and training of clinical outcome assessments for the RSCICDV.
