Milap Sandhu is a Research Scientist at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, and Research Assistant Professor in the PM&R department at the Northwestern University. Dr. Sandhu’s research is focused on identifying and validating plasticity-inducing therapies that can be combined with conventional clinical practice to pioneer innovative rehabilitation paradigms. His current work is focused on translating acute intermittent hypoxia therapy to enhance functional recovery in persons with chronic spinal cord injury. Dr. Sandhu is also working on the project to assess the potential of spasticity and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) as biomarkers of neurologic and functional recovery in patients with subacute spinal cord injury (SCI).
