Dawn Neumann, Ph.D, is Associate Professor at IUSM, IU/PM&R Research Director, and Director of the IU Interactive and Functional Assessment of Communication and Emotion Center. Dr. Neumann has a MA in Psychology, PhD in Rehabilitation Science, and completed her postdoctoral dissertation (under Dr. Hammond 2008-2010). Her primary focus is emotional dysregulation after TBI, with expertise in examining factors contributing to emotional deficits and evaluating novel therapies. She was a site PI for a NIDILRR-funded multi-center, randomized, placebo-control trial testing the effectiveness of an affect recognition intervention that she developed. Dr. Neumann was PI on an NIH-funded study evaluating an intervention she created to reduce alexithymia and improve emotional self-awareness after TBI. She is PI of a NIDILRR-funded multi-site study examining hostile attribution bias after TBI, its association with anger and aggression, and risk factors. She serves as ACRM Brain Injury-Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group Program and Awards Officer, and serves on the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation editorial board. Dr. Neumann received the NIDILRR Mary E. Switzer Merit Fellowship Award and ACRM Deborah L. Wilkerson Early Career Award.
