Abstract:

Study examining burn survivors' emotional distress and life satisfaction at hospital discharge and 6-month follow-up, and the relationship between these outcomes and medical and psychosocial variables. Data were from 295 adults hospitalized for major burn injuries. Results show that distress scores were higher and life satisfaction scores were lower than for a normative sample. Several psychosocial variables (history or alcohol abuse, marital status, and previous mental health) and medical variables (days of intensive care, pulmonary complications, and hand burns) accounted for significant variance in outcomes.
