Involvement from the field plays a critical role in the success of the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC). Periodically, we recruit individuals with traumatic brain injury and their family members to participate in MSKTC activities. Here is a listing of our current recruitment initiatives:
Recruiting TBI Ambassadors
The MSTKC is recruiting people who are passionate about improving the lives of people with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) as ambassadors. TBI ambassadors take part in research activities, help create and test MSKTC resources, and share these free resources with those who will benefit from them the most. TBI ambassadors help the MSKTC to better meet the needs of people with TBI and their families.
TBIMS Calls for HCP for Focus Group
Researchers with the VHaiHeal Team are seeking participants for a focus group of licensed health care providers (HCP) who evaluate and/or treat persons with TBI for 20% of their clinical practice. Participants are asked to share their recommendations for best practices on how health care providers can:
- Identify that their patient with TBI has cognitive impairment(s).
- Communicate this information to other health care providers.
- Encourage inclusion of a caregiver or other healthcare proxy during health care appointments to optimize treatment planning.
Focus groups will occur over Microsoft Teams and will last 60-90 minutes. Participants will be compensated for their time with a $50 gift card.

New York TBIMS Recruiting Clinicians for a Study
The New York TBIMS is recruiting clinicians for a study evaluating strategies for implementing an emotion regulation intervention into practice. Candidates will be licensed psychologists, social workers, or mental health counselors practicing in the USA. Practitioners with experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), working with people with traumatic brain injury (TBI), and providing group treatment are preferred. Eligible candidates are being sought to participate in free comprehensive training on an empirically supported intervention targeting emotion regulation.
Emotion dysregulation is a common challenge faced by individuals with TBI that can impact their community participation, function, and quality of life. The scarcity of clinicians trained in research-supported cognitive rehabilitation to treat such deficits has resulted in unmet needs for millions of Americans with TBI. The Brain Injury Research Center of Mount Sinai has spent years developing and testing an online emotion regulation intervention, Online EmReg. Research shows that it is both feasible and effective for those living with TBI. The internet-based platform allows the intervention to be delivered to those unable to travel for in-person visits, making it more accessible than traditional interventions. Clinicians participating in this study will receive free training and consultation (if applicable) and will be asked to deliver this intervention into their clinical practices.

TBI Model System Recruiting Research Participants for a Telehealth Healthy Lifestyle Study
The North Texas Traumatic Brain Injury Model System (NTX-TBIMS) alongside Baylor Scott & White is recruiting individuals with TBI nationally to participate in a telehealth-based healthy lifestyle intervention. The purpose of the study is to compare the impact of two different healthy lifestyle interventions on health and Function outcomes after TBI. To be eligible, participants must be between 18-80 years of age, at least 6 months post TBI, considered medically overweight (BMI greater than or equal to 25 kg/m2), and able to participate in physical activity.
Participants will complete 22 group-based telehealth sessions over the course of the 12-month intervention and be compensated for completing 4 assessments during that time. Participants are not required to live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Tablets and Wi-Fi hotspots will be provided to anyone who needs access to participate.
