Case Western Reserve University and the MetroHealth System's Northeast Ohio Regional Spinal Cord Injury System (NORSCIS) were awarded a five-year grant to be a Spinal Cord Injury Model System by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) (grant #90SIMS0007-01-00). The 14 affiliated Model System centers throughout the United States are responsible for gathering and submitting data on new traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCI) to the national spinal cord database. In addition, NORSCIS conducts site specific research studies on SCI and collaborates with other model centers on various research projects. Through our research we hope to improve the health, function and quality of life for people who have had traumatic spinal cord injury .
