The purpose of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of a structured outpatient couples intervention program (Therapeutic Couples Intervention, TCI) on emotional well being and marital quality and functioning. The TCI was developed as a means of teaching survivors and their partners about the effects of brain injury and ways to adjust to their new life. The program also helps people locate community resources. The TCI is implemented in-person in five or six 90-minute sessions (there is an optional parenting session for those with children). Persons with TBI and their significant other who are at least three months postinjury are eligible to participate in the investigation. All participants must be at least 18 years of age or older, in a romantic relationship, and able to understand and provide consent.
